Our History
Shaw has a long and unique history marked by growth, transformation, and a return to its roots. Initially established in 1987 in Laurens, South Carolina, the legacy Shaw Group evolved into a multi-billion-dollar global organization, building a reputation for excellence. Over time, the company underwent ownership changes, and its renowned pipe fabrication facilities saw shifts in purpose and leadership.
In June 2020, The Shaw Group came “full circle” by acquiring the former Shaw assets from McDermott International, Inc. This milestone marked a new era for Shaw as an independent, premier engineering, procurement, and fabrication (EPF) company boasting unmatched expertise in modularization.
In 2021 and 2023, respectively, Shaw expanded further by acquiring legacy companies Chemex Global, established in 1978, and KP Engineering, established in 2004. This resulted in the formation of Shaw Projects & Modules (Shaw P&M) in September of 2024. Shaw P&M solidified Shaw’s EPF business unit, combining deep industry knowledge and a legacy of successful projects with cutting-edge technology and innovation.
Today, Shaw operates with a fresh management team out of five state-of-the-art fabrication facilities, three engineering centers, and one corporate headquarters across the United States and the Middle East. With a rich history and the capability to manage large-scale projects, The Shaw Group stands out as a leader in fabrication and engineering, continuing to push boundaries and deliver exceptional solutions to clients around the world.
