Shaw Projects & Modules successfully executed the Engineering, Procurement, and Fabrication (EPF) scope for Seaboard Energy’s renewable diesel facility, marking the completion of the world’s first modularization of Topsoe’s HydroFlex™ technology.
The 6,500 bpd plant converts waste animal fats and vegetable oils into high-quality renewable diesel. The facility currently produces on-spec D975 renewable diesel and is capable of producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Commissioning, including successful Guarantee Test, was completed in 2022.

Renewable Diesel Facility

Shaw Projects & Modules completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) and provided engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCm) services for HF Sinclair Corporation—formerly HollyFrontier—on a renewable diesel project completed in 2021.
The facility features Topsoe’s HydroFlex™ technology and is capable of producing up to 9,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel from sustainable vegetable oils.
Renewable Fuel Refinery Conversion
Client: Marathon Petroleum Corporation

Scope: Module Fabrication

The Shaw Group fabricated 43 process modules for Marathon’s renewable refinery conversion project, supporting the production of up to 730 million gallons of renewable fuel annually. The modules, ranging in weight from 16 to 38 tons, were fabricated and delivered on schedule in 2022.
The project was completed with zero lost time incidents (LTI) over 40,000 work hours, reflecting Shaw’s commitment to safety and operational excellence. All modules were transported by truck to the project site.

Renewable Diesel Production Facility

Scope: Technical Due Dilligence
Shaw Projects & Modules was engaged by a confidential private equity client to conduct a comprehensive Technical Due Diligence review of the New Rise Renewable Diesel Production Facility located in Sparks, Nevada. The project, which was under active construction, aimed to produce renewable fuels through a complex of process units and utility packages.
Over a 17-week engagement, Shaw P&M provided its client with a detailed evaluation of project status across multiple critical areas, including engineering, procurement, construction, quality assurance and control, reliability and operability, cost, schedule, and commissioning and startup readiness. The assessment also included a focused risk analysis.
The due diligence report identified several key items with potential resolutions critical to our client’s final investment decision.
